Travel

Plane with Heart Trail

Getting to Puerto Escondido Airport

Option 1: Through Mexico City

You can fly from most major cities to Mexico City where you can find a connection to Puerto Escondido on Volaris, Aerobus or AeroMexico. Flights for Puerto leave Mexico City at 12:05pm, 12:10pm, 1:45pm and 8:30pm most days. If you connecting the same day and are booking the second leg separately make sure It leaves from MEX Benito Juarez and not NLU.

Option 2: Through Oaxaca

If spending a night in the beautiful city of Oaxaca is on your bucket list, there is quick hop on Aerotucan.

This is a tiny plane so book ahead!

Option 3: California Red Eye Special

For folks coming from LA and Oakland airport there is a speedy and cheap red eye options that connects through Guadalajara or Mexico City. Volaris flies out of Oakland on Tuesday and Thursday nights, an Aerobus on Wednesdays.Delta/Aeromexico offer a similar red eye from SFO through Mexico City, but we have found these flights to be longer, more expensive and the transfer in Mexico City Is messy.

Option 4: Boston

We recommend flying into Santa Maria Huatulco, which is only one-stop via Toronto or Mexico City. From Santa Maria Huatulco, it is 2.5 hour car ride to Puerto Escondido which we can help you arrange.

On the Sunday return flight we recommend the early 8:34am departure from Puerto Escondido on Volaris connecting to 12:55pm Delta/Aeromexico flight. You will need to book tickets separately. This Is also available on Monday for those who prefer to nurse their hangover on the beach.

Taxi Van Silhouette

From Puerto Escondido Airport to the Hotel Escondido

We will help organize taxis from the airport to the hotel and casas.

If your flight is delayed and you need to find your own way, ask for a shuttle at the taxi counter next to the ATM. It is a small airport you won’t miss It.

If you would like to be part of the organized taxi group, please make sure you share your flight information with us here: (link coming soon)

Travel Tips

Flying into Mexico City takes more time than flying home because you need to clear customs before connecting. We recommend a 3-hour layover and no checked-luggage if you are connecting through Mexico City Airport in one day. On the return leg a 90-minute layover is feasible.

For your return flight, please plan ahead to ensure you get a seat on the flights out of Puerto Escondido on Sunday. There are a limited number of flights each day.

If you have ever dreamed of spending time in Mexico City or Oaxaca, doing it before the wedding is a great idea! Having the flexibility to separate the flights makes traveling to Puerto much easier and both are amazing cities to explore.

We highly recommend only bringing a carry-on if you plan on connecting through in one day! Leave your high heels and science fiction novels at home; all you need a pair of flips flops for when the sand is too hot and a kindle!

Activities

7am: Early birds! Walk or run the beach while the sun rises. Or take a coffee to your beach chair for a moment of quiet.

8am: Yogurt and local papayas, mangoes and pineapple will be put out at the hotel or in the fridge at your casa.

9am: Hammock time and reading

10am: Sit down for a proper Mexican Breakfast! Enjoy the fresh jugos and say yes to frijoles and queso Oaxaca

11am - 1pm Find a shady palapa on the beach and grab a book. Take a swim in the ocean waves when you get too hot.

1pm Botanas (snacks) get delivered to your palapa by your casa’s cook or by the hotel staff. When they ask If you want a cerveza or margarita, say yes!

3pm Head back to the pool at your casa or the hotel to cool off as the day heats up.

4pm If you are staying at one of the casas, sit down for your big family style meal.

5pm Siesta time! Nap and escape the heat.

6pm Sunset on the beach is the best show in town. We recommend a salmoncito or paloma sundowner.

7pm Play bridge, backgammon or Catan.

8pm If you are staying at Hotel Escondido make your way to the restaurant for a relaxing, candle lit dinner. If you are at a casa you’ll find a light meal the cook left you for an evening snack.

9:30 pm Bedtime! Except when we are throwing a party, there is not really anything to do in the evenings, and we love that.

Our Other Favorite Activities on the Beach

Our Story

After an 8am first date, Emily flew back to NYC. Kevin didn’t text for 48 hours, but spent the next 3 months texting, calling and winning her heart.

As we became serious about spending our lives together, we traveled together to intoduce each other to friends and family.

September 24, 2023 - Emily proposed to Kevin at Bryce Canyon. Kevin never saw it coming, but was delighted to say, “Yes!”

October 19, 2023 - Kevin proposed to Emily on the Sonoma Coast. Emily was fully aware of what was happening the entire time, and was overjoyed to say, “Yes!”

Beach themes continued as our parents met for the first time in Florida over Christmas. Boating, bridge, and embarrassing stories of Emily and Kevin’s youth were immediate bonding points.

We are learning to live together in Berkeley and love welcoming family and friends into our home.

We (and especially Halloumi) are excited to have you join us in celebrating our love and marriage in Puerto in 2025!
